Introduction:
Are you looking for a convenient, self-paced and financially friendly track to entering the healthcare profession? If so, Health Education Center, LLC (HEC) has just the program for you. Health Education Center offers an online self-paced State Registered Nurse Assistant Program that prepares students to sit for the Kentucky state competency exam at the conclusion of the course. It is important to note the following: in the state of Kentucky you do not receive a certification. You are given a state competency exam to determine you maintain the minimum knowledge necessary to care for a vulnerable population of people; once successful you are then placed on a registry maintained by the Kentucky Board of Nursing. After completing this online course and having been successful on your state competency exam you will be ready to enter the dynamic, ever changing and rewarding industry we have grown to love – healthcare!
What is a State Registered Nurse Assistant (SRNA)?
A SRNA is one of the most valuable members of the interdisciplinary patient care team. Nurse assistants typically provide the majority of the hands on direct patient care. From activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming and toileting to providing emotional support through simply your presence, state registered nurse assistants are vital in the success of a person’s care.
State Registered Nurse Assistants can be employed in many different settings. Most tend to start in long term care settings in what has typically been known as nursing homes. However, more and more SRNAs are starting to work in memory care units, assisted living homes, psychiatric care and hospitals. No matter where your career path takes you, the SRNA curriculum will offer you the knowledge you need to care for all populations of people.
What does HEC offer me?
First and foremost, we offer you the encouragement and support you need to be successful in the program. We also understand the need for quality education to strengthen the workforce of healthcare professionals. Therefore, our curriculum has been designed by healthcare professionals and approved through state CMS regulatory bodies to ensure all measures are in place to maintain compliance and ensure your success in becoming a State Registered Nurse Assistant. Although we must provide oversight and direction, think of us as your partner in education. We want to walk this journey with you; from beginning to end, we are here to ensure your overall success!
What does the online program consist of?
HEC has developed an online format consisting of eight online modules. Each module varies in length and offers numerous video lectures coupled with skill videos to introduce material. At the conclusion of each module you will take a module exam to test your knowledge of the material. When you have completed all eight modules you will also take a comprehensive final exam meant to not only test your knowledge but prepare you for the state competency exam. You can progress through the modules as quickly or slowly as you please as long as you finish the content within a year. With that said, most individuals take one week per module stretching the course over eight weeks. This seems to be the most beneficial in ensuring you do not forget content that was presented earlier in the course.
Once you finish the online modules you will complete a two-day clinical experience in a long term care facility. This is a federal mandate for anyone pursing a State Registered Nurse Assistant career. Your clinical experience will be two eight hour days where you will translate what you have learned into practice under the guidance of a licensed nurse. This is an exciting experience that is built for you. Take advantage of it. Ask all the questions you can. Be a sponge. Our clinical instructors thoroughly enjoy introducing students to the “real world” of nurse assisting. Use them to further strengthen your understanding of nurse assisting and all that is involved.

As we end our clinical’s for the SRNA training here at Providence, I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for a wonderful learning experience at HEC. I thoroughly enjoyed the online, self paced training and got to review the videos and ebooks several times which made my transition to field work that much easier. Additionally the quality of the field instructor/supervisor Ms. Linda was exceptional. She not only thoroughly reviewed the nuances of the standardized training materials, but also took the time to customize each students individual clinical needs to parallel their field training experience. I was especially pleased by her approachability, ability to multitask while coordinating/managing so many different expectations with such professionalism and ease. Lastly I would like to thank you for your kindness, generosity, advocacy and promptness in coordinating this training opportunity at HEC. Have a wonderful day and a great week ahead.
